Campfire Sessions

So this is the beginning of something new.
Every week around this campfire, we’re going to slow down and listen to some of the greatest songs ever written a little differently.
Not just to admire the music.
But to let it sink deeper into our souls.
We’re going to talk about the wind, the fire, the road, the darkness, the light, the numbers, the longing underneath it all, and the ancient truths humanity keeps stumbling into whether it realizes it or not.
And no, I’m not talking about Christian rock or gospel music.
There’s nothing wrong with that.
But that’s not what these campfire sessions are about.
Give me Clapton.
Give me Bob Seger.
Give me Sting and The Police.
Give me Elton John.
Peter Gabriel.
Carrie Underwood.
Jelly Roll.
The Rolling Stones.
And together we’re going to listen for something deeper hiding underneath the noise.
Because I believe God has been speaking to humanity through beauty, longing, heartbreak, desire, memory, and music since the beginning of time.
Not always in obvious ways.
Not always in church language.
But through echoes.
Through symbols.
Through songs that somehow know us better than we know ourselves.
Because whether you like it or not…
you are loved.
And lovers chase after the hearts of the people they love.
Maybe that’s why music can hit us so deeply sometimes.
Maybe it slips past our defenses for a moment and sings directly into the places we usually keep hidden.
So each week, we’ll sit around this campfire together and take a song, an image, a lyric, or even just a feeling a song leaves behind, and we’ll slow down long enough to ask why it matters.
Why it stays with us.
Why certain songs haunt us.
And why sometimes, in the middle of an old melody playing through dusty speakers late at night, it almost feels like Someone has been trying to reach our hearts the entire time.
Maybe it’s time to stop and listen.
